Enrichment

ENRICHMENT

Students at CWC Williamsburg take part in enrichment classes daily. Over the course of a week, students have art, music, dance, and Spanish. Music classes focus on a program called Music and the Brain, where students learn to read music and play keyboards as a core part of the curriculum. In addition to being part of our self-contained enrichment classes, art, music, dance, and Spanish are also an on-going part of classroom instruction and are integrated into project based learning units.

ART

In art class at Citizens of the World Charter School Williamsburg students are building community and confidence through the creative process! Students are exploring diverse art materials, developing their technical skill and learning to care for their art and classroom environment. Our We also practice the art of sharing, observing and reflecting on our art and other artists' work.

DANCE/YOGA

According to the National Dance Education's standards, dance engages learner's physical health, emotional maturation, social awareness, cognitive development, and academic achievement. At Citizens of the World Charter School Williamsburg, students develop an understanding of dance through the study of the four cornerstones: technique, choreography, history, and critical analysis. The dance curriculum allows students to learn about various dance styles, while supporting their aesthetic development and artistic voice. Students are given the chance to demonstrate their learning through various performance opportunities at school functions throughout the year.

MUSIC

Our music program is focused on providing a holistic musical experience to each child, combining traditional classical instruction and real world experiences. Students receive music lessons on voice, piano and violin, as well as lessons in music theory, history, and appreciation. Winter and spring music concerts and recitals provide an opportunity for each child to showcase their musical talent and individuality.

SPANISH

Through a partnership with the Global Language Project, we now offer Spanish instruction four times a week for each of our classes starting in Kindergarten. At Citizens of the World Charter School Williamsburg we believe that second language acquisition is an important aspect of a child’s education as it has been proven that learning a second language supports learning in one’s first language. Through songs, authentic speaking and writing tasks and interactive lessons, our students are learning how to speak, read, write and listen in Spanish.
